How do we know for sure when the LORD is speaking to us? | ||||||

Hi, hgeo! Read John 15:5-25... this is Jesus' discourse in abiding in His Love: Commandment! When we stray from Jesus' Word we act against His Commandment. This is why He cautions that not all who call Him Lord will be saved (Matthew 7:21-27; Luke 6:46). It is not sufficient to say, "The Lord spoke to me..." We must gauge all claims and thoughts against Scripture (Galatians 1:6-12); the Lord will never speak to us with messages that are contrary to Scripture! I find this particular problem with many believers: While searching for the "perfect" mate they would pray to the Lord and await for His revelation--but seldomly is there reliance on the Lord; their "awaiting on the Lord" is tinted with personal biases (selecting the person then asking God to make that person fall madly in love with him/her; selecting a person who is already in a relationship; making a "Santa" list for God to fill; desiring instant reply and very short discovery period; confusing Christian affection with human emotions...) that void all prayers and supplications since they do not meet with God's approval (James 4:1-7) We must learn to listen to the Lord with a humble, patiente and impartial heart and mind... We must give Him time to offer His response; then, we must accept it and act on it--even when it is not the response we wanted to hear! I offer you Ephesians 4:14 through 5:21 as a guide in listening to the Lord! God Bless! Angel |
