Has your mormon friend done his mission yet? If so, you've got a well-trained person on your hands. A mormon who has completed or is in the midst of their mission is very difficult to debate. Unless one is at least equally well-versed in the Word of God, they'll get you every time - they are prepared for just about any argument you can think of, except the one I'm about to suggest. This one method that can stop them in thier tracks will cost you time and research - look up several non-Messianic prophecies and show their fulfillment in secular sources, i.e. an historian or encyclopedia. Then look up several Messianic prophecies, along with those fulfillments, secular as well as biblical sources. Then ask your friend to do the same with his "bible." He won't be able to do it. (P.S. You can google biblical prophecy and Messianic prophecies, and you can probably find the secular citations of the fulfillments online as well.) (P.P.S. If nothing else, this exercise will edify yourself as you grow in the knowledge of the Scriptures.) |

I question this tactic since Mormons use the King James Bible. They hold that the Book of Mormon is an addition to KJV not a replacement. Trying to convert a Mormon is very very difficult. I had a very good friend that was a very well educated pastor/theologian that was married to a woman whose parents were mormon. He tried everything to open their eyes and each attempt was met with failure. The biggest thing Legsrandall needs to do is guard against being talked into mormonism herself. Like I said it a man made religion based on Christianity that provides man's answers for questions which in many cases God hasn't answered yet. These answers agree with human logic since they are man made and since this religion seems to have the answers it must be right. Wrong! Again they are man's answers not God's |

Yes, I know. That's why I told her to have the friend use the book the Christians don't use. And if he takes her up on the debate, he cannot win; and if he's really wanting the truth, this will be the beginning of his journey. I've gotten 2 mormons now questioning mormonism this way. Two is not alot, but it's a start..... |

I'm not going to question success but I would love to understand this more. Can you please explain this to me in more detail? As far as I know the Book of Mormon does not contain any prophecies Mesanic or otherwise that arent' included in the KJV (since that is where they got copied from) so how did the Mormons find something to question? I guess what I'm really asking is what exactly are your mormon friends questioning? | ||||||

These that I have had goings on with have a book that does have prophecy. I'm sorry, I don't know what it's called, I'd always just thought it was the one called Book of Mormon, but I guess it must be something else (it wasn't nearly as many pages as the Christian Bible, it looked to have maybe 300-400 pages). Maybe these were a "sect" of mormonism, not of the main-stream? The parts that got them to thinking was the fact that some prophet (or maybe an angel) called maroni could not be traced outside of this book. At least that's what they told me. I really know very little about mormon belief, but I know the Scriptures well. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. |

I sounds like the Book of Mormon but I can't think of any prophecy listed in it that wasn't lifted directly from KJV. Moroni was the angel that Joseph Smith claimed gave him the golden tablets from which he translated the Book of Mormon using the Urim and Thummin (magical spectacles) that let him read the never existing ancient language of reformed Egyptian. However I can't imagin the fact that they couldn't trace Moroni outside of the Book of Mormon to be enough to have them question their faith. Christians really can't trace the angels Micheal or Gabriel outside of scripture either but that does not give us rise to question our religion. Is there more information you can give me. I have never been able to effectively witness to a Mormon nor has anyone else I have met until now. Your methods very much interest me. Please let me know how you started the dialogue and which prophecies you used to get them to question their faith. |
