1 | The Teacher and His teachings? | John 14:23 | Mommapbs | 109744 | ||
Greetings and welcome to the Forum. The difference between Jesus and the words He spoke is decided by the hearer. Yse, we are saved by Grace (Eph 2:8-9) - don't "think" this - KNOW IT! And yes, there are many who follow the "teachings" without a change of heart. However, following Jesus is NOT "trying" to do what He says, it is desiring to let Him be at work in and through us for apart from Him, we can DO nothing! John 15:5. "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter." Mt 7:21 What do you see as the "will of the Father?" Hi Mommapbs, In comparing John 15:5 with Matthew 7:21, I would say that the will of the Father is that we become His disciples. See John 15:8. Now I don't pretend to know or understand the blend of the Persons of the triune God. I do know that when the words were spoken by Jesus they were the words of God and were words of the Spirit. The Jews had been taught of God. So I'll let you decide which Person you might think of when looking at the three pronouns of John l5:8. This verse I suggest to you is what answers your question as to the "will of the Father". John 15:8, "By this is My Father glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be **My disciples." A comparison verse would be John 8:31. John 8:31, "Jesus therefore was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you abide in My word, then you are truly disciples of **Mine;..." 1) The "My disciple" in the Greek for John 15:8 is a very emphatic "disciple to Me". The "My disciples" of John 8:31 has the usual wording of possession. 2) Another thing that could be discussed is whether it is more important to know the truth or to know the Truth. Personally I capitalize Truth in John 8:32. The Son shall make us free. |
