1 | What does "In the name of Jesus" mean? | John 14:14 | kalos | 56979
Cyclist: First, let me say that in posting what I did it was never my intention to hurt, flog, or rebuke anyone. Rather it was posted in the hope that it would make us stop and think about what it truly means to pray in the name of Jesus. You write: "It appears that you were quoting someone, were you?" That I was quoting someone is a pretty safe assumption, seeing that I ended my post with the Title of the article quoted, the Author of the article, and the Website where the article originated. Before I attempt to answer your questions, I suggest that you read and heed the last paragraph of my previous post, which I have repeated below. It would probably be better to discuss an article after one has read all of it. Following is the last paragraph of my previous post: "[This article has been edited to fit here within space limitations. To read the entire article, see In the Name of Jesus by Gregory Koukl (www.str.org/free/commentaries/theology/nameofje.htm)]" Hopefully, reading all of the article will better explain what I was intending to make clear. But if, after reading it, you still have questions, I would be glad to answer them. Grace to you, kalos |

2 | What does "In the name of Jesus" mean? | John 14:14 | Cyclist | 57224
Kalos, I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever! I will keep a song of praise to the Lord my God in my heart the day long! I will sing to the Lord! Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. I did read the entire article. My questions still stand. These are the same questions but maybe not the exact wording as in my prior posting. Is this article inspired by revelation, or, the Spirit of the living God, or, is it man's wisdom? What about my prayers, and the prayers of countless others who ended their prayers "In the name of Jesus, Amen." and had prayer answered? Perhaps these are questions just for me, and, I may need to just discuss it with the Lord. I did find some scripture where the name of Jesus was used by the wrong people, in the wrong spirit. It is below. Blessings to you, and, thank you for taking time to respond to my postings. Cyclist I will bless the Lord at all times! His praise shall continually be in my mouth! Acts 19:13 But also some of the Jewish exorcists, who went from place to place, attempted to name over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, "I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches." Acts 19:14 Seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. Acts 19:15 And the evil spirit answered and said to them, "I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" Acts 19:16 And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaped on them and subdued all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. Acts 19:17 This became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived in Ephesus; and fear fell upon them all and the name of the Lord Jesus was being magnified. |

Kalos, This is a continued from my prior posting. I was at my daughter's home and had to leave before I expected to, so, I did not get to complete it. I have read postings in this forum that say that you do not have to be in any particular place and/or be in any particular position to pray to the Lord our God. This I agree with. I recieved Jesus Christ into my life while behind the steering wheel of a car, driving on a country road. In addition, I talk with the Lord all day long. I seek Him in everything that I do, and, I do not always say "In the name of Jesus, Amen". I know without a doubt that the Lord Jesus is with me 24/7, and, I know that He is listening to me always. He is my friend, may counselor, my Savior, my everything. So much so that every thought is challenged, and, brought under the obedience of Christ. I love Him so much! I have also read in some postings, which, again, I agree with, that say that talking with the Father is like talking with our "Dad" or "Daddy". I can remember as a boy talking with my dad about anything and everything. So it is with my heavenly father. Sometimes though, when I became a young man, I needed to be in a certain place, sitting face to face, with my dad to discuss serious issues, issues that were of great importance to me. This is the same with my heavenly father. I actually get on my knees before Him and lift my hands to Him, every morning. The hour is late, for me anyway, and I am simply rambling, forgive me. Again, I appreciate the article and your postings In Christ, Cyclist I will bless the Lord at all times! His praise shall continually be in my mouth! |
