2 | Why do we celebrate Good "Friday"? | John 12:12 | EdB | 40594 | ||
Searcher I believe the confusion is because the bible records, "they had to remove the bodies because of the coming Sabbath." People not familiar with Judaism didn't realize Passover was considered a Sabbath as was the day following. I know the early church understood this but their focus was on the resurrection morning not the crucifixion. Later as the church got involved and created the Holy Week they were by now disenfranchised with the Jews and did not realize there was are more than 7th day Sabbaths and thus the confusion was born. I don’t think you will ever find a Messianic Jew that doesn't think Jesus died on Thursday, they understand and know Passover Sabbaths, Nissan the 10th and Nissan the 14th and the need for Jesus to fulfill the Passover prophecy. In truth the only thing that really matters is Jesus was crucified, died and arose again on third day. All else just matters to us less than perfect humans. EdB |
