1 | Why Thomas said, Let us go so we can die | John 11:8 | SISTERKIT | 119817
In the book of John. Concerning the death of Lazarus. Jesus is plainly making it clear to the disciples that Lazarus "sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it" Jesus was trying to explain to the disciples what He was about to do and they still didn't get it. However, In (v.14)He said to them plainly "Lazarus is dead." and (v.15) "I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, that you may believ. Nevertheless let us go to him." Then in (v.16) This is where my question comes in at. the scripture says, then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his vellow disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with Him. "Why do you think Thomas said, "Let us also go that we may die with Him?" I mean really, this wouldn't have been recorded if there wasn't a true spiritual meaning in it. I know that it's funny and sounds funny coming from Thomas, but really what do you think he meant? |

2 | Why Thomas said, Let us go so we can die | John 11:8 | Emmaus | 119818
SisterKit, I think the answer is in John 11:8. The authorities had tried to arrest Jesu and wanted to stone Him, but He had escaped across the Jordan. Now He was talking about going back to a suburb of Jerusalem wher Lazarus had died. So Thomas is showing a little false bravado in verse 16. Peter does the same thing later in John 13:37. But when crunch time came, the Apostle fled, including Thomas, and Peter denied he even knew Jesus three times. Later, after the resurrection these two big talkers get some special attention from Jesus in chapters 20 and 21. What we have to ask ourselves is: are we all that different from Thomas and Peter when push comes to shove? Probably not, but Jesus forgave them and gave them authority and a job to do anyway.
