In this verse it says the son of Cainan is son of Arphaxad but in 1 Chr 1:18 it is Shelah is son of Arphaxad and in Gen. 10:24 the same. Why is Cainan mentioned in Luke and not in 1 Chr or Gen 10, what am I missing? | ||||||

to Add - it is not the answer - I think the only logic is that Cainan died before his son Selah came into the world and his father Arphaxad adopted him as his son. This was possible but is there another explanation beside this logic that is unstantiated |

CAI´NAN (ka´i-nan). The son of Arphaxad and father of Shelah, according to Luke 3:35-36. He is nowhere named in the Heb. text, nor in any of the versions made from it, such as the Samaritan, Aram., Syr., Vulg., etc. It is believed by many that the name was not originally in the text, even of Luke, but is an addition of careless transcribers from the LXX. See also Kenan for the NASB and NIV rendering of KJV “Cainan” in Genesis 5:9-14; 1 Chron. 1:2. —New Unger's Bible Dictionary |
