1 | Can anyone advise ... | Luke 3:23 | Douglas Renton | 203580 | ||
Can anyone advise me of the link between Mary the mother of Jesus and the Davidic line... if there is one? I had thought Jesus link to David was through his legal parent, Joseph, as in the culture of that day, male lineage was taken as the link. Matthew 1. 6-17; Luke 3. 23-31 |

Greetings Douglas, Luke 3:23-38 is the genealogy of Jesus through Mary, establishing His physical descent from David through Mary's lineage. Luke, unlike Matthew, includes no women in his genealogy- even Mary herself. Joseph was the "son of Heli" by marriage (Heli having no sons of his own), and thus is named here in v. 23 as the representative of Mary's generation. Blessings to you, Makarios |
