1 | How do Matthew 2 and Luke 2 meld? | Luke 2:39 | Makarios | 27391 | ||
Greetings Steve! The circumcision of Jesus did not occur on the 40th day of His life, but on the eighth (Lev. 12:3; Luke 2:21-22). In no way does Luke 2:39 contradict the events in Matthew 2. Luke is silent about the events in Matthew, and Luke focused his attention on his theme rather than the same theme as Matthew, who wrote to fulfill all prophecy (showing that He was the Messiah) and to denote early rejection. So yes, both Luke AND Matthew are correct. (Luke 2:39) When they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they did return to Galilee, to their own city of Nazareth, but not before they took a "slight" detour to protect the Child's life! (Matthew 2). :-) Blessings to you, Nolan |
