1 | To Nazareth from Jerusalem or Egypt? | Luke 2:39 | Makarios | 27390
Greetings Steve! I have always understood it this way: Mary and Joseph went from Nazareth (Luke 1:26) to Bethlehem (Luke 2:4). At Bethlehem, Jesus was born (Luke 2:5-20). Eight days later, they went from Bethlehem to Jerusalem (Luke 2:22). After this, Mary and Joseph went back to Bethlehem, apparently on their way back to Nazareth, where they were met by the magi (Matthew 2:8). However, just after the magi came and left, Mary, Joseph and Jesus went into Egypt (Matthew 2:13), where they stayed until Herod died (Matthew 2:19-21). And after Herod died, they went from Egypt back to Nazareth (Matthew 2:22-23; Luke 2:39). I do not believe that there is a contradiction between the events in Matthew and Luke 2:39. Blessings to you, Nolan |

Greetings Steve! I agree, there is no contradiction. Just as Norrie had already pointed out, they visited them in a house, not on the road. - Nolan |

3 | To Nazareth from Jerusalem or Egypt? | Luke 2:39 | Searcher56 | 27442
Nolan, there is no contradiction. However, they were in the Temple on day 40, for purification. The magi visited them in a house, in Bethlehem, not on the road. I think after day 40, they went back to Bethlehem. They were visited by the magi within weeks ... then off to Egypt, then Nazareth. S |
