1 | Had Joesph already adopted Jesus? | Luke 2:33 | Makarios | 27195
Greetings Steve, The NASB Study Bible text note says, "Luke, aware of the virgin birth of Jesus (1:26-35), is referring to Joseph as Jesus' legal father." And Jesus was brought up in the household of Mary and Joseph while the people only knew Jesus as the son of Joseph (Matthew 13:55). But they would find out His true lineage later (John 3:16). Blessings to you, Nolan |

I was just wondering if Joseph adopted Jesus at this time.

I do not believe that a formal "adoption" ever took place, since it was believed that this was the son of Joseph.

Nolan: I agree with you. First, I've never even heard of Joseph legally adopting Jesus. There is no mention of it in Scripture. Second, "Joseph, her husband, being a just man, [was] not willing to make her a public example" (Matthew 1:19, KJV). This being so, why would Joseph subsequently make Mary a public example by "adopting" the child born to her? Doesn't even make sense. kalos |
