1 | Why should we dedicate our baby? | Luke 2:27 | Hollifieldcs | 101681
There is no lack of desire on our part; in fact, there is a strong pull to "stay in the lines" on this matter. We dedicated our first child almost six years ago with both of our fathers participating in their role as ministers. It was unique from other dedications we had witnessed because of their participation. When our son was born three years later, we had moved to another city. We were part of a church body that was the largest we had ever been associated (900 members). We did not really feel as though we belonged. The church was in the middle of serious tension related to the senior pastor position. Our previous dedication experience was a stark contrast to what would apparently be nothing more than going through the motions on "Baby Dedication Sunday" with five to six other families. We realized how pharisiacal(sp?) it would be for us to do as we could not put our finger on why it should be done at all. We are now expecting our third child. We are in a different body of believer's that we have come to know as close as family. |

2 | Why should we dedicate our baby? | Luke 2:27 | Mommapbs | 101721
Greetings and congratulations - my prayer is that this new gift from God will come to know Him as Savior and Lord at an early age. (Now there's dedicatory prayer of a sort!) I can appreciate the difference in experience from church to church, but is it the environment that determines whether or not you will dedicate your child to the Lord or is it your heart's desire? The why it "should be done" is conforming to the traditions of men rather than a response that glorifies God. I suspect that this is what you "felt" at your former church. Now you are in a "family" that perhaps more reflects Jesus Christ and recognizes their corporate responsibility to you in your desire to "train up your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord." Whatever you decide, you can count on the prayers of those around you to support your decision. I'm so thankful to know that this little one will be welcomed into the world by parents who know Jesus! Blessings to you all! mommapbs |
