For context: Luke 22:65 And they were saying many other things against Him, blaspheming. Luke 22:66 When it was day, the Council of elders of the people assembled, both chief priests and scribes, and they led Him away to their council chamber, saying, Luke 22:67 "If You are the Christ, tell us." But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe; Luke 22:68 and if I ask a question, you will not answer. Luke 22:69 "But from now on THE SON OF MAN WILL BE SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND of the power OF GOD." Luke 22:70 And they all said, "Are You the Son of God, then?" And He said to them, "Yes, I am." Luke 22:71 Then they said, "What further need do we have of testimony? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth." If you go back and read the whole story as cited above, it becomes obvious that Jesus was emphasizing what in fact did happen just as He said it would. Thus He was emphasizing He knew the future and He knew they would not believe Him as they didn't believe Him when He was in the public eye performing unquestionable miracles. Blessings to you. 3 | What did Jesus mean by this remark? | Luke 22:68 | Mommapbs | 124192 | ||
Country Girl, Jesus already stated in the prior verse that even if He told them, they would not believe Him. (And yes, they had the testimony of His miracles) "IF I ASK A QUESTION, YOU WILL NOT ANSWER" suggests, Jesus knew their hardened hearts. It also suggests, to me anyway, that they would be unable to confess faith in Him apart from His enabling. The veil is over the heart of Israel.(But their minds were hardened; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ. 2 Cor 3:14 I am also reminded of God's discourse with Job - see Job 38-42; see 42:7) Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ Rom 10:17 may also be useful here.
