1 | Do the dead praise God? | Luke 16:23 | humility | 215072
If death is just a sleep, why do some Christians believe that when we die, we go immediately to heaven or hell? Did Jesus call Lazarus back from death or from heaven? (John 11)
2 | Do the dead praise God? | Luke 16:23 | Vintage68 | 215099
Hi humility This is my belief, about the death of Lazarus, verse by verse John 11:4,11,14,23,24,25,26,43,44 4.) ("This sickness is not unto death") Speaking about a spiritual death. 11.) ("Our friend Lazarus sleepeth") Speaking about a physical death. 14.) ("Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.") Speaking again about a physical death. So we see, Jesus Himself says, that someone that is physically dead, is sleeping. 23.) ("Thy brother shall rise again.") Speaking about physical life. 24.) ("I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.") Speaking about spiritual life. 25.) ("Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:") Even if we are dead physically, we are still alive spiritually. 26.) ("And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.") By living our lives in Jesus while we are physically alive, our flesh will die, but we will never die spiritually. 43.) ("he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.") Speaking about a physical life. Lazarus was already alive spiritually. Now going to Thess.4 we can see the same words being used. It appears as though when this body of flesh dies, it is laid to rest (SLEEP) the word sleep is never used in relation to the spirit (soul) sleeping. 1 Thess. 4 14.) For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15.) For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16.) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17.) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. I am not sure if it says anywhere in the bible, the spirit leaves the body when the body dies. We can assume this when we look at this passage. But it is not definite. 2 Cor. 5 :6,8 6.) Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 8.) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Vintage68 |
