It took a couple of years before the Holy Spirit revealed this one to me. The revelation that I received, is that the "shrewed manager" told his boss's customers to write a lower amount, than they really owed, on their bills. He told them to do this so that he might find favor with them once his boss fired him. The best way to explain this parable for its spiritual meaning is to refer to the Lord's prayer. Jesus gave us a model prayer, which begins "Our Father, which art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name..." The prayer continues, "and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors". We are blessed of the Lord when we forgive others their transgressions against us. When we forgive those who hurt us, and maintain our friendship with them, despite what they have done to offend us, we just might keep our friend. What's more, the Lord (the Boss) will, Himself, forgive us when we hurt others because we have forgiven those who have wronged us. Hope this makes sense to you. |
