I have been trying to sort out a question from Nehemiah. Unfortunately, the thread has been blocked. I don't understand why, when it has been a thoughtful discussion. The ID # is: 119266 Perhaps someone could explain the censorship to me? Better yet, perhaps a wise voice could help with the question? JRM |

Hi JRM, I just read your thread and found it also to be a thoughtful discussion. I wonder if we could discuss here about the hairs of our head and how it might relate to anything. Luke 12:4, "And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more they can do." When I read your thread I thought of Moses and how he thought that he was supposed to be the deliverer of his people. He struck down the Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren. Exodus 2:11. But after that, he tried to break up a fight between two Hebrews and found that his act of violence had been discovered. From then on, there was "nothing more that he could do". He had to flee in fear from Pharoah. Luke 12 tells us who we should fear. "Fear the One who after He has killed has authority to cast into hell; yes, I tell you, fear Him." Those are the words of Jesus in Luke 12:5. The verse that you are concerned with is Nehemiah 13:25. "So I contended with them and cursed them and struck some of them and pulled out their hair; and made them swear by God, "You shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor take of their daughters for your sons or for yourselves."" You wonder how much a leader should contend with his people. (And perhaps how much FOR his people, looking at Moses). Moses himself was asking the two Hebrew men, "Why are you striking your companion?" As always we should look at the One about whom the Scriptures are written. We should fear the One who has authority. Christ is our Deliverer. God is able to accomplish His goals. 1) I wonder about the translation of Nehemiah 13:15 and the English involved. Who is the "You" in the quoted oath or commandment? 2) The hairs of our head are numbered, so you be assured that He is aware if anyone is pulling them out. Whether they are being pulled out on behalf of God, or in a misguided attempt at doing God's will, or in brutality; God is aware of it all. From the heart, Ray |

Thanks, Ray. Some more to think about. It puts Nehemiah in a broader context. More to think about (some new questions, too...) God, indeed, understands all the details, even when we are confounded. ---JRM. |
