2 | Explain Luke 12:21 | Luke 12:21 | Makarios | 12391 | ||
Greetings Blessed of my Father! I would explain this verse (Luke 12:21) in this way: "It is futile for us to amass treasure and possessions here on earth, since we will only be here for a short time. We should strive for the treasure that is eternal, that is, to win souls and further the Gospel of Jesus Christ." "God’s judgment on selfishness is clear. What did the rich fool have for the next life? He could not take his grain with him. What he owned was no longer of any value after death. In a single day, the rich man became poor. All earthly wealth is temporary and ultimately worthless (Matt. 6:19–21; 1 Tim. 6:6–10, 17–19; James 5:1–6)." The Nelson Study Bible "Stewardship, Life-Style—How we live expresses our Christian faith. Personal life-style is made up of attitudes and values, activities, conduct patterns, goals, and specific uses of material possessions. The world insists that the good life consists of accumulating possessions and indulging in luxuries. Christ showed that life is fulfilling only when we seek to extend His kingdom by loving, serving, and giving to others. Jesus’ teachings and His life-style denounced getting wealth as the aim of life. He reminded His followers that owning material riches is temporary; spiritual riches are eternal. Money and possessions are to be used in spiritual serving. See note on 1 Ti 6:6-19." The Disciple's Study Bible I hope this helps! --Nolan |
