The world views things in relation to the past. We take those who we think are great in our eyes and compare them to those of the past. A good baseball player may be compared to "Babe" Ruth. A great actor to Humphrey Bogart. So when the disciples are asked what the PEOPLE say who Jesus is the answer is one of the prophets of old, the greatest being Elijah. When Jesus asked, but who do YOU say I AM? Peter asnwers "the Christ (anointed One, Messiah) of God. god spoke the answer through him. It is only through the revelation of God that we know who Jesus is. In Matthew 16:15-17 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? [16] And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. [17] And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. [KJV] Before God revealed Jesus to me He was just a prophet, a good man, a Godly man, but just a man. God opened up the eyes of my heart and revealed who Jesus was and I fell on my knees and called Him Lord. Just like you. |
