Well, my friend, the Lord obviously wanted your question answered. The following is excerpted from a book entitled, Adventuring Through the Bible: Matthew, Mark and Luke, by Ray C. Stedman. "Mark 8:22-26 goes on to record a very significant act of our Lord: Mark 8:22 And they *came to Bethsaida. And they *brought a blind man to Jesus and *implored Him to touch him. Mark 8:23 Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, "Do you see anything?" Mark 8:24 And he looked up and said, "I see men, for I see them like trees, walking around." Mark 8:25 Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly. Mark 8:26 And He sent him to his home, saying, "Do not even enter the village." Notice the the setting of this story--the village of Bethsaida. Matthew describes Bethsaida as one of those cities Jesus had pronounced judgement upon, saying, Matt 11:21 "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Here is a city that has rejected our Lord's ministry and His person, and He will not allow any further testimony to go on in that city. He led the blind man out before He healed him. This is the only case where our Lord did not see an instantaneous, complete healing take place the first time He spoke. When the healing was complete, He would not even allow the healed man to go back into the village, for Bethsaida was a village under God's judgement for having rejected the ministry of the Servant of God." Wonder of wonders, I received this "Complimentary Study Resource" in the mail, several minutes ago. The book is published by RBC Ministries and can be ordered online at www.dhp.org/adventuring. After this happened, I could not help but to break into a chorus of "How Great Thou Art!" Stay blessed, dear one! |
