1 | why is this woman likened to a dog? | Mark 7:27 | Lindac | 128560
In the two versus prior to this, a woman was asking Jesus to cast the demons out of her daughter. In this verse, I know that Jesus is not calling the woman or her daughter a dog, but I'm not sure who the "children" are in this verse and why he associates the woman and/or her daughter to the likes of a dog. Can someone please help me to understand this.
2 | why is this woman likened to a dog? | Mark 7:27 | Shelly | 128563
The NIV Study Bible notes says (on Mark 7:27-28): 'Dog' refers to little dogs or house pets, not outdoor scavengers. Jesus was saying that his first priority was to provide food for the children (teach his disciples), not to allow pets to interrupt the family meal. The woman did not try to argue. Using Jesus' choice of imagery, she pointed out that she was willing to be considered an interruption as long as she could receive God's healing for her daughter. Ironically, many Jews would lose God's spiritual healing because they rejected Jesus, while many Gentiles, whom the Jews rejected, would find salvation because they recognized Jesus. |
