1 | Why do we ignore parts of Moses' laws? | Mark 7:14 | rogerthehart | 176851 | ||
In Mark 7:14-23, Jesus delared all foods clean. Mar 7:14-23 (14) After He called the crowd to Him again, He began saying to them, "Listen to Me, all of you, and understand: (15) there is nothing outside the man which can defile him if it goes into him; but the things which proceed out of the man are what defile the man. (16) ["If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear."] (17) When he had left the crowd and entered the house, His disciples questioned Him about the parable. (18) And He *said to them, "Are you so lacking in understanding also? Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him, (19) because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?" (Thus He declared all foods clean.) (20) And He was saying, "That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. (21) "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, (22) deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness. (23) "All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man." Also, we are not to judge others according to what they eat (or don't eat), or make it a stumbling block, but are to receive everything with thanksgiving. (1Cor 8; 1Tim 4:1-5) "For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit." (Rom 14:17) Then why were the dietary laws given in the first place? The Hebrews were to be set apart from the other nations of the world, in all areas of life, as the people of God. Lev 11:44-47 (44) 'For I am the LORD your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy. And you shall not make yourselves unclean with any of the swarming things that swarm on the earth. (45) 'For I am the LORD who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God; thus you shall be holy, for I am holy.'" (46) This is the law regarding the animal and the bird, and every living thing that moves in the waters and everything that swarms on the earth, (47) to make a distinction between the unclean and the clean, and between the edible creature and the creature which is not to be eaten. |
