1 | Gergesenes and Gardarenes same place? | Mark 5:1 | jones864913 | 176593
In Mathew 8:28-34 it states that when the Jesus crossed the sea with the disciples that two possessed men met them in the land of Gergesenes. And then in Mark 5:1-20 it states that when Jesus crossed the sea with the disciples that one possessed man met them in the land of Gadarenes. Question: Is this the same occurrence told from two different point of views- or is a totally different location? Just a little confused |

2 | Gergesenes and Gardarenes same place? | Mark 5:1 | Searcher56 | 176594
God's day to you, jones86491 We see the Greek Gadarenos is translated Gergesenes (in some translations) ... "reward at the end" in Mathew 8:28. It is Gadarenes in other trnaslations and in Mark 5:1; Luk 8:26,37. The word is from from Gadara (a town east of the Jordan). They are the same place. It si the same Greek word - just translated differently. Searcher |

3 | Gergesenes and Gardarenes same place? | Mark 5:1 | Morant61 | 176598
Greetings Searcher! I agree that the place is the same in all three verses. However, the Greek words are actually different. The UBS text has: Gadarenos in Matt. 8:28 Gergesenos in Mark 5:1 and Gergesenos in both Luke 8:26, and 37. But all three verses have a variety of textual readings as well.
