2 | MARK CHAPTER 4 VERSES 35-41 | Mark 4:35 | EdB | 69136
Shirleyfrog Hi and welcome to the forum. To me there are two points here. First Jesus told them to cross over, to go and the disciples forgot who commissioned them. They looked at the storm rather than who sent them, forgetting His faithfulness. Second I think this was allowed to happen to demonstrate to them and to us Jesus' ablity to control nature, the seas and the weather proving once again He is God. EdB |

Hi EdB, You stated good points with a good post. As a "capitalizer" I would add credence to your points by translating verse 4l this way. Mark 4:41, "And they became very much afraid and said to one another, "Who then is this Man [this One], that even the wind and the sea obey Him?" Mark 4:41, KJ, "And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?" What do you see as the significance of Mark 4:36 where it says that Jesus was taken into the boat just as He was? From the heart, Ray |

4 | MARK CHAPTER 4 VERSES 35-41 | Mark 4:35 | EdB | 69145
Ray I would bow to NLT here. Mark 4:36 He was already in the boat, so they started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). EdB |

Hi EdB, That is a very good answer and I thank you for your work. As one who numbers pronouns as you know, I would say that the verse is short two pronouns. So, in a sense, only the Son was in the boat. I say that philosophically, symbolically, because that is the way that I see it. ****In other words this Man had said to them, "Let us go over to the other side." So He was taken along with them, just as He was, in the boat; and other boats were with Him. ****He Himself went to sleep in the stern of the boat. So we know that this Man who came in the likeness of men slept like men sleep. But He was God with us and the wind and the sea obey Him. ****Earlier in the chapter of Mark, I believe that Jesus would have used the "royal We" for verse 30. He is talking about the kingdom of God and mustard seed and how all of us, of every nation, can nest under the large branches that have grown from it. ****All of us, also, in a sense can go over to the other side. We can get in the boat, and faith in this heavenly Man will keep us from perishing and bring us to the other side. ****Pretty philosophical stuff, eh? And since Mark 5:21 says that Jesus crossed over again in the boat to the other side, I think that your answer has more merit. This time according to Mark 5:21, he was beside the seashore; and thus, not in the boat. ****But I think that I have spoken of this before, sorry. Sorry also that this will probably not have paragraphs and with all that said, I post it anyway. **** From the heart, Ray From the heart, Ray |
