In Mark 1:10 many translations say or imply that Jesus saw the heavens opening after he came out of the water, but the Amplified and ALT bible (http://www.dtl.org/alt/index.html), to name two, say John did. Who did? | ||||||

Hi Alex: Good question. It looks like maybe both of them saw the Heavens opened. note: the lower case 'h' in the King James, (not sure if this is significant or when the upper case 'H' started to be used when referring to His deity) John --"he saw the heavens opened; or "cloven", or "rent"; this may be understood, either of John, who was the spectator of all this, which was done for the manifestation of the Messiah to him, and the confirmation of his faith in him, and that he might bear record of him; and so the Persic version reads, "John saw", etc. see John 1:30, or of Jesus Christ himself, who came up out of the water; and when he did, saw the heavens part,"-- John Gill http://www.freegrace.net/gill/ |
