Greetings stella-f, If you go to Matt 21:33 you will find the same parable. The parable before in Matt 21:28-32 are related. The parable of the 2 sons seeks to convict the religious leaders of their serious misconduct and spiritual loss in the past. In this parable the emphasis is on the present. Jesus lets them know that He is aware of their plots against His life. He warns them of the serious consequences of putting Him to death. He also associates Himself with the OT prophets of Isreal. The landowner is God and the vineyard represents the nation of Isreal. The tenants represent the people of Isreal who were responsible to give God. Their were responsible for spreading God's word and reaping a fruitful harvest for Him. The servants were all the OT prophets from Abel to John the Baptist. All through the OT prophets were rejected, and punished both physically and mentally. The son represented God's son, Jesus. The majority refused to accept even God's son. Jesus tells them that they will be put to a miserable death. It is interesting to note that this is one of the 3 parables that is given in all 4 gospels. This emphasizes it's importance. |
