1 | will we receive persecutions? | Mark 10:30 | Asis | 85342 | ||
Jbw The Holy Bible, New International Version Mark 10:24 through Mark 10:31 (NIV) 24The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is (Mark 10:24 Some manuscripts is for those who trust in riches) to enter the kingdom of God! 25It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 26The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?” 27Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” 28Peter said to him, “We have left everything to follow you!” 29“I tell you the truth,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. 31But many who are first will be last, and the last first.” We must take scripture in context, that is look at it in the situation in which it was spoken or written. Jesus has just had a discussion with the rich young ruler who couldn’t give up his riches to follow Jesus. He loved them (his riches) too much. Jesus says money can cause us to take our eyes off God. Then He says man can save no one but with God all things are possible. Then the disciples said, “Hey wait a minute, we gave up everything to follow you. We gave up our jobs I had a fishing boat, he had a great tax collecting business, he was working with his ole man and making good money. What about us, we gave it all up to follow you. What do we get?” Its not about getting. Its about commitment to Jesus. Give it all up (Phil. 3:7 through Phil. 3:9 (NIV) 7But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.) for Him and your reward will be much greater than anything you can attain in this world. He then tells then it doesn’t matter when you choose to follow Him, 30 years ago or a minute ago the reward is the same. I know there are those out there who have a much better handle on the meaning of these scriptures maybe some will respond and give you more points of view. |
