Hi, vwharton1... Welcome to the forum! God offers us eternal things in exchange for temporal things. Gerald Robinson writes, "A dog may look at you and think, 'You feed me, you pet me, you shelter me, you love me -- You must be god!' On the other hand a cat can look at you and say, 'You feed me, you pet me, you shelter me, you love me -- I must be god!' -- You see, they both look at the same information, but because of their self-centered or master-centered attitudes, they come to totally different conclusions!" Watch around yourself and see how many more cat theologians there are versus dog theologians. They each cannot help but show who they really are! By the same token, let us examine our own lives to see whether we are cat theologians or dog theologians. What is it that lies at the center of our lives? After a wealthy man had walked away from Christ (Mark 10:17-22): And Jesus, looking around, said to His disciples, "How hard it will be for those who are wealthy to enter the kingdom of God!" The disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." They were even more astonished and said to Him, "Then who can be saved?" (Mark 10:23-26 NASB) What is there any hope if the people who do not need to spend every hour of their life scraping out a living cannot be saved, how is there hope for those of us who do? Looking at them, Jesus *said, "With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God." (Mark 10:27 NASB) You see, human being are incapable of saving themselves in any way. Only God can insure that His own are redeemed. It is entirely a work of God. Peter began to say to Him, "Behold, we have left everything and followed You." (Mark 10:28 NASB) Here Peter asks the same question you are asking, vwharton1. Let us then read how our Master responded: Jesus said, "Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel's sake, but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last, first." (Mark 10:29-31 NASB) In Him, Doc |
