1 | Does Jesus deny His deity? | Mark 10:18 | Ray | 17045
Hi Brian, Thank you for sharing that quote from NewAdvent.com for I thought that it was very good. One of the references of the "Son" was in Matthew 17:24,25. I believe however that the passage teaches that Peter was a son and "of the earth" but that Jesus was the Teacher who pays the two-drachma tax and probably more. I'm afraid I don't know the difference between two denari and a shekel. Jesus was the One who was "just passing through" customs and being polled. So I see Him here more as a "Teacher". Ray |

2 | Does Jesus deny His deity? | Mark 10:18 | Brian.g | 17079
In Matthew 17:24, the question was asked to Peter specifically about Jesus paying the tax. . Matt 17:24 When they came to Capernaum, those who collected the two-drachma tax came to Peter and said, "Does your teacher not pay the two-drachma tax?" Jesus asked Peter if the sons of kings were required to pay the tax. To which Peter reponded no (Mathew 17:25-26). . Matt 17:25 He *said, "Yes." And when he came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth collect customs or poll-tax, from their sons or from strangers?" . Matt 17:26 When Peter said, "From strangers," Jesus said to him, "Then the sons are exempt. Jesus agreed to pay the tax only so as not to offend, implying that He felt he did not feel compelled to pay the tax since as the Son of a King, He was exempt. In addition, Jesus arranged to pay Peters tax. . Matt 17:27 "However, so that we do not offend them, go to the sea and throw in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up; and when you open its mouth, you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for you and Me." Brian |

3 | Does Jesus deny His deity? | Mark 10:18 | Ray | 17093
Hi Brian, I think that we have to keep in mind that Peter is not a Son of a King nor a son of a king. Jesus said, "Then the sons are exempt." I think that sons means "citizens" of the land in contrast to strangers. I did find out that Jesus paid the exact amount and no more. See Exodus 30:15 See also Mt 22:16 and see that He was not partial to any. |

4 | Does Jesus deny His deity? | Mark 10:18 | Brian.g | 17178
Ray I don't believe that Peter is the main focus of this passage. My understanding is that the questions and discussion were all centered around Jesus. Maybe someone else can share their thoughts with us. Brian |

5 | Does Jesus deny His deity? | Mark 10:18 | Ray | 17228
Hi Brian, I believe that the questions and discussion were centered around Jesus also. But I believe that they were centered around the Teacher. I think that this is the only place where teacher is not capitalized in the book of Matthew, NASB. I believe that it should be. Compare Mark 10:17 with Matthew 17:24 and Matthew 23:8
