1 | Jesus and Children as Paedobaptism? | Mark 10:14 | bowler | 207282
I am confused about something. Here we have Jesus saying do not hinder the children from coming to Him. If I am not mistaken Jesus was referring to more than just children coming to sit on His lap, or get a hug. He seems to be saying, that children, at least in His day, were receiving the kingdom of God, were getting saved? How come then, we now do not permit children to be baptized? Is this why there were "forms of Paedopabtism", practiced by some of the Great Divines, or no that is not why they did it? Is it that children who really, truly exhibit in their own words a true understanding that they are sinners who need repentance is what Jesus meant? And did that later get stretched out of the context He had about children coming into the kingdom as Paedopabtims? Just a worthless son. blessings abound, bowler |

Hello bowler, You have begun with speculation and continued with presumption. Let's go through your post. "Here we have Jesus saying do not hinder the children from coming to Him. If I am not mistaken Jesus was referring to more than just children coming to sit on His lap, or get a hug. He seems to be saying, that children, at least in His day, were receiving the kingdom of God, were getting saved?" The idea being brought out is the simple faith and trust being displayed in Him, which is what the Lord desires for His own children. I don't think that the childrens' salvation, as such, is the topic. "How come then, we now do not permit children to be baptized?" Who prohibits a believing child from being baptized? Not me, therefore "we" are not doing this--only a portion. As for the rest, you'll have to interact with a paedobaptist to get an answer. Steve |

3 | Jesus and Children as Paedobaptism? | Mark 10:14 | tumbleweed | 207347
Steve I thought bowler asked the first part as a question and was not making a supposition or speculation; "He seems to be saying, that children, at least in His day, were receiving the kingdom of God, were getting saved?" I don't understand how you see that as speculation, its a question. Then bowler asked ""How come then, we now do not permit children to be baptized?" It is a fact that there are many churches that do not baptize children before some age of accountablity which varies from church to church. I do not believe, we, referred to anyone on the forum, it seems that perhaps bowler was generalizing a bit about the word we. There are a lot of other people on the forum here and they seem to know a lot about various things in church history. How come then bowler would have to interact with a paedobaptist to get an answer? 1 Peter 3:8 To sum up, all of you be harmonius, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit. tumbleweed, God's Own |

4 | Jesus and Children as Paedobaptism? | Mark 10:14 | srbaegon | 207356
Hello tumbleweed, The presumption was based on a speculative idea that the passage was dealing primarily with salvation, which it is not. As for why I directed bowler to a paedobaptist, I am credo-baptist and cannot fairly relate the doctrine. Steve |

R. C. Sproul -- also a paedobaptist -- is one of the few such who admit that their practice is more a matter of Church history than biblical exegesis. He is also one of the few paedobaptists I know of who can correctly and soundly articulate the credobaptist perspective. I have a lot of respect for him in this regard.
