1 | Is my sin any less ugly ? | Matt 7:6 | Ray | 41323 | ||
Hi Dave R., I agree with your thought of everyone being equal in sin under the Law. And everyone, Jew, Gentile, male and female, all are equal in God's sight and the Truth is not partial to any. This thread so far has led me to compare Proverbs 9:4-12 and Matthew 15:25-27. Proverbs 9 talks through the voice of wisdom and says to eat of her food. Jesus says that He is the Bread of life. Wisdom says don't correct a scoffer or reprove a wicked man, lest he hate and insult you. Jesus says that He came to His own, the lost sheep of the house of Israel. (Yet they hated and insulted Him, and did not receive Him). Wisdom says in verse 12, "If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, And if you scoff, you alone will bear it." Jesus says, "It is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." Yet upon the testimony of faith in Him, He heals her daughter and accepts her into the fold evidently. So again, the Truth is not partial to any, and in Matthew 15 the multitude glorified the God of Israel. I believe that the Gentile dog of Matthew 15 respected the Lord and knew Him as Master, and even though He came in wisdom only to the sheep of Israel, He helped her. I see her saying that she even as an outsider had benefited from the crumbs of the Bread of life. I also see the disciples reasoning among themselves in Matthew 16, and that even though they had been fed along with the four thousand, they had been slow in seeing this sign and were still prone to look at the teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees instead of the Bread of life and His teaching. For Jesus had said to them, "Watch out and beware of the leaven [teaching] of the Pharisees and Sadducees." Contrast the copyrights of the NASB for Matthew 16:7, "They began to discuss this among themselves, saying, "He said that because we did not bring any bread." Proverbs 9:10, "The fear [respect] of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Proverbs 10:3, "The Lord will not allow the righteous to hunger, But He will thrust aside the craving of the wicked." The woman dog of Matthew received crumbs from her Master's table. The teachings of Jesus are here in the Bible for everyone who will believe. It is up to each of us separately, personally, to scoff at Him or to be wise and we will be individually accountable. May we all be wise. From the heart, Ray |

Ray, Very interesting post. Your analysis is fascinating in how you related Proverbs to the Gospel of Matthew. Excellent inductive reasoning. You have illuminated very well the idea of heaven's "open door" policy, with Jesus being the door. All are welcome and any who choose (however that "choosing" works under God's sovereignty) may enter. Only God knows who ultimately follows the narrow path through Jesus Christ. Keep up the good work. Hope to hear more from you in these pages... In Christ, Dave R. |
