As you probably know swine or pigs were considered unclean in Jewish culture. Likewise dogs while not unclean as such were considered not much better. What Christ was saying is very simply stated: we are not to be foolish and jeopardize ourselves. When we know that a person will not receive us or the instruction of the gospel, we are not to approach them. Very simply, there are some criticizers and scoffing sinners to whom we must not go. They will hurt us and abuse the glorious message of the gospel.Preacher's Outline and Sermon Bible - Commentary - The Preacher's Outline and Sermon Bible – Matthew. |
