1 | Who are these people thatJesus condemns? | Matt 7:22 | Mommapbs | 28891
Who are these people who prophesy, cast out demons and perform miracles in His name, and yet Jesus says in the following verse that "He never knew them"? Some suspect that these people were not under the Lordship of Christ at the time that they did these things, for Jesus said that they acted wickedly - lawless, rebellious to His authority. It can be confusing if we read Romans 10:13 which declares,"All those who call on the Name of the Lord will be saved." But the confusion clears when we recognize that this passage refers to the time of judgement. This heightens our sense of urgency to be discerning doesn't it? Could it be that in spite of their spectacular "ministry," they never called on the Name of the Lord until "that day?" Perhaps the key is that THEY did these things in Jesus name, not Jesus IN them! 2 | Who are these people thatJesus condemns? | Matt 7:22 | kalos | 28901
Mommapbs: You raise some good questions and issues regarding this verse. Consider this. For starters, in Matthew 7 who said that these people prophesied, cast out demons and performed miracles in His name? "Many will say to Me on that day..." They, the people themselves, said they did these things. In the text of the Bible, Jesus is not the one who said they did the things they claimed to do. kalos |
