Scripture ... Matt 7:7-12 (Luke 11:9-13); Luke 6:27-31 (Matt 5:39-42) ... Greetings 1summers@bellsouth.net, Look at the context of the Golden Rule. Most other groups give it in a negative. Jesus gives it in a positive. In Matthew, the context is dealing with giving/ asking for-getting gifts. Then verse 12, it starts with "so" and says the Golden Rule sums up the Law and Prophets, which Jesus came to fulfill (5:17). I cited Luke 11:9-13 because it parallels Matt 7:7-11. In Luke, He is dealing with how we treat enemies; those that curse, mistreats, strikes us; takes our cloak, asks for something or takes from us (Matt 5:39-42) ... we need to do what is right ... not what the world would do. Hope this helps, Searcher |
