1 | Does God decide how long we live? | Matt 6:27 | sistrunk | 28057
My ten-year old son died in an accident in 1999. I believe his life was planned by God and that although God did not "cause" him to die, his days were numbered before one of them came to be.Are there Scriptures (in addition to Psalm 139:16) that support my belief that a person's life, including how long he/she spends here on earth, is planned in advance by God?
2 | Does God decide how long we live? | Matt 6:27 | Makarios | 28074
Greetings sistrunk! According to Psalm 6:7, stress contributes to aging, and Psalm 90:10 seems to support the fact that we all have a certain number of years to live. According to Proverbs 16:31, gray hair is prestigious, and the Lord will continue to be with you, even in old age (Isaiah 46:4). However, to address the situation that you have presented, I would quote Ezekiel 18:32.. "For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone who dies," declares the Lord GOD. "Therefore, repent and live." With that said, we have no power over death (Ecc. 8:8), and death is inevitable (Ecc. 7:1-2), being something that can happen to anyone, even in our best years (Isaiah 38:9-10). Death itself does not bring praise to God (Isaiah 38:18), even though the Lord knows just how long each of us has on this earth. Blessings to you, Nolan |
