Does Rev.22:18 apply to the whole Bible? If so how can protestant religions add to the Lord's Prayer..."For thine is the kingdom and the Power and the glory forever Amen. | ||||||

Greetings Delight! In a specific sense, Rev. 22:18 only applies to the prophecies of Revelation. Note that the verse says 'this book'. However, I think most would agree that we are not to add to nor take away from any of God's word. However, this is not as simple a proposition as it sounds. Many people are simply not aware that there is not one 'authoritative' copy of the Bible by which all other copies are judged. What we have are thousands and thousands of copies which do not always agree amongst themselves. Therefore, one has to use many criteria to determine which 'reading' is the correct one. You mentioned (I'm assuming) Mt. 6:13. Among the Greek manuscripts there are several possible readings, one one of which is the longer one to which you referred. However, most 'protestants' have accepted the shorter reading which ends with 'deliver us from the Evil One'. So, I'm not sure what you mean when you ask about 'protestant religions' adding to the Lord's Prayer! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
