Kanomy, Jesus says in Matthew 6:11, "Give us this day our daily bread." This is in the context of His model prayer for his disciples (the so-called 'Lord's Prayer'). This petition acknowledges our dependence upon God for daily food. As we have need for physical food to nourish our bodies, so do we have need for God's word to nourish our spirits. Jesus describes Himself in John 6:35 as the bread of life. Bread also symbolizes the Lord's body (1 Cor.11:23,24); His kingdom (Luke 14:15); and the unity of His church (1 Cor.10:17). --Hank | ||||||
