1 | unanswered prayer: Good or Bad? | Matt 6:10 | shamgar | 111240
Ok, I was looking at the issue of unanswered prayer as a postive thing, to help teach and/or show us that God knows our future and knows who, what, when, where we are going to interact with. Most information I have found deals with unanswered prayer being a negative and it is due to us not being alined with God, or having an unpure heart....can someone please help me understand?
2 | unanswered prayer: Good or Bad? | Matt 6:10 | Hank | 111241
Shamgar, I invite you to look at prayer in this way: Our Lord in His example prayer for His disciples used the phrase "your (God's) will be done" (Matthew 6:10). Effective prayer, therefore, must be according to God's will. Now, I submit that there is no such entity as unanswered prayer. A regenerated believer's prayer is always heard and always answered. The answer may be a rather immediate 'yes' or it may be a deferred 'yes' Or it can, and in fact will, be a 'no' when one's supplication is made not according to God's will. Still and all, the fervent prayer of the righteous is always heard, always answered. When someone uses the term 'answered prayer' he is almost invariably speaking of supplications that have received what he deems a positive, hence favorable, response in his own eyes. But God is sovereign and infinitely wise. He knows what we need before we ask and, on the other hand, He knows what we don't need, even though we may be convinced in our own minds that we do need this or that. Someone has observed that one of God's riches blessings for His children is that He doesn't always give them everything they ask for. --Hank
3 | unanswered prayer: Good or Bad? | Matt 6:10 | mitelt | 111249
Well said, Hank. Garth Brooks recorded a song several years ago that I think was titled "Unanswered Prayers". I can't remember the words totally but I think it had a few lines something like: Sometimes I thank God for unaswered prayers. Remember when you're talking to the Man upstairs, that just because He may not answer, it doesn't mean He doesn't care. Some of God's greatest gifts are 'Unanswered Prayers'. Not exactly scriptural, but it has stuck with me. The song's reference, of course, was to the prayer that was answered "NO" because God's plan was greater than man's desires. God's will be done. |
