1 | adultery vs. fornication | Matt 5:28 | libraudr | 196354
Thanks both of you! BradK, your answers are very good, but bring some confusion to me personally. Let me try and clarify a little. My friend believe that *adultery* is wrong, but thinks it's okay to have sex before marriage. Your answer makes me question - is adultery and fornication used interchangeably? These are not the same thing, hence my confusion. Thank you so much and God bless you for your help.

Hello libraudr, Both words- "fornicate" and "adultery" have different meanings- per the definitions I provided. You might want to check a good concordance (i.e.,Strong's, NASB) to look up and study how each word is used. Adultery is really the act of sex with another you're not married to. With your friend- "fornicator" (pornos Gr.)- would apply as in 1 Cor. 6:9. It means "a man who indulges in unlawful sexual intercourse". Can your friend provide SPECIFIC SUPPORT from scripture to show that sex before marriage is OK? Ask him to please show you from the Bible- chapter and verse! Again, the burden of proof is really on him. "Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment. A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion. (Prov. 18:1-2 ESV) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
