2 | How do you find the right church? | Matt 4:4 | DocTrinsograce | 199021
Hi, Barb... One thing of which I am absolutely certain is that feelings aren't the basis by which we are to make choices. We are to make our choices based on a sound interpretation of the Scriptures. Your growth isn't based on how you feel either. Since the Spirit never leads outside of the Word, you will find a closer walk with the Lord as you study the Word and seek to apply the clear teachings you find there. You will find a great deal about what a church should be in the pastoral epistles -- the letters to Timothy and Titus. The letters to Corinth are helpful, too, but you have to keep in mind they were a thoroughly messed up church. If we were to go back in time, I think that would be the last church of which we'd want to be a part! In a nutshell, there are five broad considerations to make as you study a church: orthodoxy (sound doctrine), orthopraxy (sound practice), preaching, love, and ministry. In Him, Doc |

4 | How do you find the right church? | Matt 4:4 | DocTrinsograce | 199030
Hi, Barb... No worries about "discernment." Our words reflect our understanding of doctrine. We are each working hard to rightly reflect the truth of the Word to others. Consequently, we carefully instruct one another, for our growth and -- more importantly -- God's glory. Sorry if I was too terse. We can talk about each of those items if you like. Our brother Hank gave you a very good place to find a much better and more detailed answer. I think I summed up what Phil Yancey had to say, but he certainly said it much better than I might have done. Careful about basing things on feelings, though. Feelings come and go, but we walk by faith -- a faith based on truth. In Him, Doc |

5 | How do you find the right church? | Matt 4:4 | Barb514 | 199034
Yes I have been taught about feelings cause feelings can get in the way of truths I just had really come through a very trying time in my walk with Christ I left my church of 7 years because I just didn't feel like I was spiritually growing I felt as if I couldn't really do what God wanted me to do My bishop who trust me is very spiritually blessed and a true man of God was very strick to the word he taught me obedience though difficult sometimes obedience is how we are blessed but I was asked one day if I could come and share my testimony which truly is amazing with another church I asked Bishop if I could go and share my testimony and he said no I couldn't go because a woman was the preacher it really puzzled me How do you tell me daily I get faught so hard because I am a witness for God but don't allow me to tell my testimony because a woman is preaching I believ God called each and every one of us both male a female all to do one very important thing and that is to go out and make disciples of each andeveryone He didn't say just of men but all The Word says God has no respect of person, but anyway after a while I left I went to a few churches the Spirit of God wasn't flowing the way I'm used too there was too many questions go through my mind and just not enough answers no I was not being impatient but any way a Woman who is a preacher of a church not the same church I was asked to testify at kept calling me telling me God had sucha calling on my life she wanted me to come attend her church She asked if I would teach the kids Sunday school I say Idon't believe I can be a teacher she told me to have faith and just try iy I did then all the kids were gone but my 2 Then she meets someone gets married and brings him into the church he yells he discourages instead of encourages he says he sick of hearing people say God is love I'm sorry this is not right with my Spirit so now I want to be somewhere I can grow somewhere I can witness somewhere I can bring someone in and know they will be fed the true word of God so thats where I am at I can get better teachings right here in my own Living Room watching Tv evangelist or reading the Word but I think I have said too much so this is a brief summary Oh I can go on and on and tell you the goodness of Jesus and testimony after testimony how He delivered me and saved me and how He picked me up out of the depths of hell and showed me the way time and time again I can tell you how when noone would even talk to me He was my only friend how when I was in prison He was my teacher my strength my guide and then today and forevermore will be the GReatest in my life Blessings peace Be love in Christ sis Barbara
6 | How do you find the right church? | Matt 4:4 | DocTrinsograce | 199035
I see... ma'am, how about learning to master the Lord's command to women? What a challenge that will be! It makes preaching seem like peanuts! "Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled." (Titus 2:3-5 ESV) You are, of course, preaching the Word as you properly love and honor your husband (Ephesians 5:22-24). In Him, Doc |
