1 | Where is the Kingdom of Heaven? | Matt 3:2 | 00123 | 226871
Where is the Kingdom of Heaven? (Question 1) Did Jesus refer to the heaven where our heavenly father resides or the new earth that is the changed form of the current earth? (Question 2) By the way, in a Christian funeral, we say the dead person is with the Lord now. If that is the case, why does the Bible say the dead are asleep, waiting for resurrection? If s/he is already with the Lord, why does s/he need any resurrection? Thank you for your answers in advance.
2 | Where is the Kingdom of Heaven? | Matt 3:2 | Makarios | 226875
Greetings 00123! Where is the Kingdom of Heaven? The Kingdom of Heaven (or Kingdom of God) is God's heavenly kingdom coming to earth in the Person of Jesus Christ. So, if Christ and God the Father are in heaven and the Holy Spirit is working with us here on earth, then the Kingdom of Heaven can be both in heaven and on earth at the same time. Are the dead with the Lord, or still asleep, waiting for resurrection? The key to understanding this is that when we die, "then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it." (Ecclesiastes 12:7; 2 Cor. 5:8). So, the body returns to dust, waiting to be resurrected at the Second Coming (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18), while the spirit goes to be with the Lord (Acts 7:59; Philippians 1:21-26). At the resurrection, the body and spirit are reunited, "For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality." (1 Cor. 15:53) Blessings to you, Makarios |
