Greetings Lhardy, Christians celebrate the Lord's Day on Sunday to commemorate the Lord's Resurrection from the dead, which happened on the first day of the week (Matthew 28:1, Mark 16:2,9, Luke 24:1, John 20:1,19). The early church then followed suit, meeting on the first day of the week (Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 16:2) in recognition and commemoration of the Risen Lord and Savior. And this practice has continued to this very day, in commemoration of the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. True, God commanded the Jews to rest on the seventh day (Exodus 20:8-11), but Paul said, "Let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ." (Colossians 2:16,17) Christians are led to enter into the rest of Christ (Hebrews 4:1-13), which is what we must seek rather than upholding a particular day simply out of tradition. And in this way, by entering into the rest of Christ, we fulfill the 4th of the Ten Commandments. Blessings to you, Makarios |
