1 | Were there 2 or 4 men hung on the cross | Matt 27:38 | jalanlambert | 165340
The 4 Gospels talk about the 2 thieves being hung on the cross with Jesus, and 2 malefactors being hung as well. I always looked at them as the same. I had someone tell me that there were really 4 people hung besides Jesus, 2 thieves and 2 malefactors. Matt. 27:44 says that both thieves mocked Jesus along with the (V41) chief priests, scribes and elders. Also Mark 15:32 says that those who were crucified with him reviled him. Luke 23:39 says that one of the malefactors who were hnged railed at him. (V40) says that the other rebuked the one that reviled Jesus. My Question is were there 2 or 4 men on the cross with Jesus, and why do some accounts of the event say they both reviled Jesus while other accounts say that only one did. Some accounts say thieves and other Gospel accounts say malefactors. Are they one and the same.? Thanks ahead of time for any light you can shed on this subject. JAL |

2 | Were there 2 or 4 men hung on the cross | Matt 27:38 | prayon | 165343
Greetings jalanlambert, There were 2 men crucified with Jesus. According to Websters Dictionary a malefactor is "one who commits a crime; one guilty of violating the laws, in such a manner as to subject him to public prosecution and punishment, particularly to capital punishment; a criminal." Malefactor therefore is interchangable with thieves. According to different translations the words robber and criminal are also used. Hope this answers your question. prayon |
