1 | Did Judas know the One? | Matt 26:48 | Ray | 59863
The difference between "one" and "One" and the difference between the NASB and Amplified is that on which we will hinge our outlook for the eternal future of Judas. Did He know Jesus as the One or did he only say "Lord, Lord" and didn't do the things He said? I ask this question because I am reconsidering my position stated in past discussions of Judas Iscariot. I wonder if a Greek student can give us the renderings of the various manuscripts and teach about how the addition of one Greek letter can make "He it is" into "He is the One". I am afraid that Judas was just an acquaintance of Christ as shown by his "friendship"; and by the Greek word used by Jesus for friend. Did Judas know the One? If you feel that he did not know Him in the Garden, should we still not judge him because we do not know his final relationship? From the heart, Ray |

2 | Did Judas know the One? | Matt 26:48 | Searcher56 | 59874
Scripture ... Luk 4:41, 22:3; Jam 2:19 ... The Greek reads autos (he) esti (to be), so I'd say both are okay. Did Judas know the One? I think he knew all about Him, in his head, as the demons do (Luk 4:41, Jam 2:19) ... Satan got in (Luk 22:3). If we saw Him, in a crowd, could we point Him out? Hope this helps, Searcher |

3 | Did Judas know the One? | Matt 26:48 | Ray | 59882
Hi Searcher56, Thanks for answering. The Greek reads "esti", however in the NU text it reads "estin". My Greek knowledge is minimal, but evidently that word ending variant changed the rendering for the versions that use the NU text. Another variant is in the corresponding situation found in Mark 14:44,45. Here the manuscripts keep the same words, but the word Rabbi is repeated for a second time in the manuscript text that the NKJ uses. That is why I wonder if Judas could be equated with those who say "Rabbi, Rabbi", and do not do the things He said to do. Here is my comparison for the references in your post: James 2:19, "You believe that God/ is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder."...23 and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness," and he was called the FRIEND of God. You see that a man is justified by works, and not by faith alone."...3:8, But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. With it we bless our (Lord) and Father; and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God." Luke 4:41, "And demons also were coming out of many, crying out and saying, "You are the Son/of God!" And rebuking them, He would not allow them to speak, because they knew (Him) to be the Christ. John 7:25, NKJ, "Now some of them from Jerusalem said, "Is this not He [NASB, the man] whom they are seeking to kill? But look! He speaks boldly, and they say nothing to (Him). Do the rulers know indeed that this is *truly the Christ?" Luke 7:19, "And John, calling two of his disciples to him, sent them to Jesus, saying, "Are You the Coming (One), or do we look for another?" [I would say Another?] NASB reads "someone else?" If we saw Him in a crowd, we could point Him out, unless we were looking for someone else. From the heart, Ray |
