1 | Seating at the Last Supper | Matt 26:23 | Rollin71 | 213967
After studying this book, Mark, Luke and John, I believe a few things. The table of the last supper was U shaped according to Jewish custom at this time. Additionally, I believe that John was on Jesus' right, Judus was on Jesus' left and Peter was at the very end of other side of the table facing Jesus. Jesus said "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me." Realizing that in Jews days the bowl was used by the person to his left. Additionally, in John 13:26 Jesus said, "It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish. Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon." The bread back then, Jewish custom, was to pass the bread to the left. John on Jesus's right is the disciple whom Jesus loved (John 19:26, 20:2, 21:7,20, 13:25) John 21:24 tell us that "This is the disciple who testifies to the things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true." This is what John testifies to in John 15:27. Back in these days it was the Jewish tradition that the one sitting on the last seat of the table was the servent to wash to feet. That is why Peter in John 13:8 said, ""No," said Peter, "you shall never wash my feet." Comments.
2 | Seating at the Last Supper | Matt 26:23 | MJH | 213973
You're going to have to supply evidence for the Jewish customs that you state. I've heard of none of them. Knowing that this supper was a Passover would enlighten the events, but not the seating so much. Any sources for these? MJH |
