1 | The shhep and the goats Matt 25:32 | Matt 25:32 | palmoni37 | 201383 | ||
Matt 25:32 Does the division between the sheep and the goats speak of the unbelievers and the believers, or a division in the church? His flock, His sheep and His goats? It is not the sheep and the swine! The goat was a passover offering Exodus 12:5, a clean animal who in Matt 25 talks with Christ. |

Hi, Palmoni... The sheep represent those in the church (v34). The goats represent those who are outside of the church (v41). Each are characterized by their actions, either stemming from the transforming and redeeming power of God for His elect (vv35-40), or out of their own natures (vv42-45). Sheep and goats graze together in this present age (see also the parable of the tares in chapter 13). Metaphors need not be used in a consistent way. Leaven may represent evil doctrine in one place (Matthew 16:6) and the gospel in another (Matthew 13:33). Examine the context, for Christ often clearly identifies the elements in His parables. See post #157835 for a few guidelines for sound parabolic interpretation. In Him, Doc |
