1 | Jesus views on the wealthy and the poor | Matt 25:26 | 00123 | 233048 | ||
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ (Matthew 25:21 ESV) Based on this talent parable by Jesus, can we say the financially rich people are upright (honorable, admirable) and faithful, while the financially poor people are wicked, lazy, and idle? I know that could be too much generalization because in other places of the Bible the rich are condemned (James 1:10, 11, 2:5, 6, 5:1), but the Jesus parable is totally against our current social and political climate that the rich are considered wicked and lazy while the poor, industrious and honest. |

I think you are missing the point. In this story who is rich? The servant or the master? Is it not the servant, who was a faithful steward of the Master's riches? Jesus is teaching here stewardship not wealth management or how to become wealthy. Hardwork as a steward is what is being rewarded here, not financial wealth. The generalization of rich being lazy and poor being hard workers is just that a generalization. I know rich honest and hardworkers and I know poor that would steal you blind if they weren't so lazy as to not get out of bed. |

The second sentence in my response should have said. It was the Master. The servant was a faithful steward of the Master's wealth. I don't know where my brain was when I was typing that resonse. Sorry! |
