Winter travel is very difficult with the cold and snow. Sabbath travel was forbidden to the Jews. Jesus is talking about the coming tribulation and told his audience that will be a hard time. They will have to flee to survive. To emphasize how awful a time it will be Jesus said pray it isn't during a time when travel is particularily difficult. EdB |

I think that would hamper flight! I think a Sabbath's travel was actually 1000 steps, or approximately 3000 feet. Like you said just over a half mile. Did you know they located and designed their houses so they could walk to synagogue and back and also included an appropriate number of trips to the out house and remain within the 1000 step law?
