1 | What do you think of Christ? | Matt 22:42 | Aixen7z4 | 101964
Who is this Jesus, who is called Christ? This question has been asked indirectly, on this forum, and directly too, but I have found no explicit answer. And yet, it seems to me it is the most important question. Would you care to answer it? There are times when it is not clear whether a participant here is or is not a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. And yet, it might be said that that is the preeminent, most important question that a person asks or answers. It has been suggested that this is not a forum where matters of personal salvation are decided. And yet, it seems to me that that would be the most important thing to happen here, or anywhere. When a person is saved, his goal, his prize is to become like Christ, to be conformed to his image. The question still is: “What do you think of Christ?” Now, as then, “Whose son is he?” is one question. But beyond that: Is he master and lord, that we should obey and emulate him? Is he the savior, that we should believe in him? Is he God, that we should worship him? (I apologize to those who think some of those words should have been capitalized. There might be differences of opinion on that, depending, in part, on our thoughts about him). What do you think of Christ? |

2 | What do you think of Christ? | Matt 22:42 | shalor | 101965
(Rom 10:9 NASB) that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; It would depend on what one believes that verse really says! |

4 | How would you answer the question? | Matt 22:42 | Ray | 101972
Hi Aikenz4, You didn't have to apoligize in your first question for not capitalizing, but I think that shalor and I know that I would would capitalize Jesus as Lord. I believe that if we study from versions that do not capitalize we should have the mindset that they should be capitalized to show that He is God's Son. An example of that was suggested to me by the other thread here on Matthew 22:42 with Kalos and Benjamite over a year ago. The passage in Luke 24 was suggested. Luke 24:18, NASB, "And one of them, named Cleopas, answered and said to Him, "Are You the only one visiting Jerusalem, and unaware of the things which have happened here in these days?" Luke 24:18, NKJ, "And then the one whose name was Cleopas answered and said to Him, "Are You the only stranger in Jerusalem, and have You not know the things which happened there in these days?" Luke 24:18, KJ, "And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?" The first thing I noticed in this verse and in these translations is that Cleopas was spoken of as being a "one". This is in contrast to the "One" is was speaking to them. The One who was speaking to them was no strange god visiting Jereusalem, and He was certainly not unaware of the things which had happened. Luke 24:27, (My copy for what it is worth) "And beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He/ EXPLAINED to them the things concerning Himself [sic] in all the Scriptures." John 1:18, "No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He/ has EXPLAINED Him." Matthew 24:4, "And Jesus/ answered and said to them, 'See that no one misleads you.'" So you ask us, what do you think of Christ? I would count the pronoun in verse 19 of Luke 24. I would understand that He was a *Prophet (and more than a Prophet). Luke 24:19, "And He said to them, "What things?" And they said to Him, "The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a *Prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people." From the heart, Ray |

5 | But what from the heart? | Matt 22:42 | Aixen7z4 | 104983
My dear Brother Ray: I understand about capitalization now, and I know this is a Bible Study forum. I understand that there are things to be seen in the verses and in the translations. I understand that there is something to be learned when we count the pronouns and such. But please. So much from the head! After all the study, and the experience of knowing him, what do you think of Christ? Now, please don’t fuss with me for pressing, but please give us something from the heart. |
