1 | What is the leaven? | Matt 16:6 | Mommapbs | 73328
What exactly IS the yeast of the Parisees? Jesus was vehement in His warning about it yet do we recognize it in our midst today? What are some signs that a little leaven has (spoiled) the dough? 1 Cor 5:6; Gal 5:9.

Some of the yeast of the Pharisees can be read about in Matt 6. It talks about what the hypocrites do and what you shouldn't do. Matt 23 explains their yeast some more. Sadly to say, we do see this in our time. The leaven doesn't necessarily have to come from the church leaders either. You see gossip spreading into people sowing discord on one another. You see bad examples of christians all the time. I'm sure you have seen many bad examples where you are serving. The bad examples (or "tares" as Christ referred to them) sometimes cause other christians to say, "well if it's ok for so and so to do this, then it's ok for me to do it". This is how it spreads. After some time, the whole church can be involved in mess. Have you ever seen a church flea market or bingo night? There's an example of leaven spreading to the entire church. What did Christ do when He saw the people conducting business in the house of God? He overturned the tables, and said this is a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves! Somewhere along the line, we lost the seriousness of serving God. Instead of the leader of that church saying that a flea market in God's house is not appropriate, they allow it so no one is offended or they justify it for the need to raise funds. Then everyone goes along with it because the church leader said it was OK. The leaven is spread much deeper than you can imagine. Don't be fooled by other's inability to conform to God's standards. I hope I explained this well enough for you. Your question actually needs to be answered in a 2 hour long bible study. It is a very good question. I don't feel that I can explain it well in writing. But I figured I'd give it a shot. Let me know if I helped you at all.

Greetings - sorry for the tardy reply - I have been away for a couple of weeks. You made some good observations and I agree, a 2 hour Bible study would be a good place to start . . . I suspect that the yeast is not the action, but rather the mind set that spawns ungodliness. Throughout God's Word we are continually challenged to CHANGE THE WAY WE THINK (and act); so the yeast (to me anyway) begins to grow in the mind with our thought processes. What we choose to believe will dictate our responses. You wrote: "Don't be fooled by other's inability to conform to God's standards." I think that all too often we "fool ourselves" into thinking that we actually can "measure up!" No one can meet the requirements of God - aren't you glad that Jesus did?!! It is only through Him that we are "holy and blameless" in His sight. (Col 1:22) Sadly, there are so many believers who fail to grasp the truth of this fact. Sadder still are those "believers" who point a wagging finger at the sins of others . . . we need to see God AS HE IS and others as HE SEES THEM! Blessing to you, mommapbs |

Can I ask what you meant by no one can meet the requirements of God? When I further read into your words, I think you meant that we cannot do it on our own and need God. I just want to make sure that's what you meant. I do believe that through His Spirit, we can meet His requirements. Christ said be therefore perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. Matt 5:48, 2 Tim 3:16,17. Without Christ, we are nothing, But through Him, we are made righteous in God's eyes. Is that how you see it? Yours in Christ, Sal |

Greetings Sal - Only Christ met the requirements. When Christ said "be perfect", He didn't mean for us to "try to become perfect". Yes, apart from Him we are nothing, we are perfect IN HIM only - no because of anything we "do" but because of what HE HAS DONE! We can never meet His standards on our own . . . yet somehow, believers have missed this as they continually seek to gain God's approval by the things that they do. (This is different from seeking to please God out of love for Him!) Many Christians have misunderstood the Truth of reconciliation - we already HAVE God's complete approval because of Jesus! Nothing we can do will make or cause God to love us any more or any less than He does right now! We are (at the moment of belief) completely forgiven, accepted and approved - what freedom that is! We have EVERYTHING WE NEED for life and godliness! 2 Peter 1:3 If this is so, then what more can we obtain by our "good works?" When we focus on the finished work of Christ, instead of believing that we must "do" something more, we don't need to fear failure, rejection or punishment (which are, if you think about it, the things that really motivate us!)We are completely forgiven and totally accepted by God because of Jesus Christ's finished work which has justified,(forgiveness)and reconciled (restored a righteous relationship) us with God. The Spirit is the seal of this, He is the deposit of the promise and the One who works in us for His good pleasure (if we so let Him!) But without Christ, NO ONE is righteous, no one is blameless or holy. We can NEVER met His requirements! And this fact MUST be remembered by believers, for without it pride will rear its ugly head in our midst. Our service, or "living for Christ" becomes our source of approval rather than the approval we ALREADY HAVE in Jesus only! This is a subtle trap - think about it. In Christ's love, mommapbs |

You sound like a very content and nice person, always full of joy. I wish I could meet you. I like being around people who irradiate happiness. I'm pretty sure I understand you. It's so hard to completely understand through writing sometimes. God bless, Sal |
