2 | Matthew 13:45-46 (NIV) Pls Explain | Matt 13:45 | 00123 | 188390
I heard a pastor say the merchant is Jesus our Lord and the pearls of great values are the elected Christians (Jesus indeed said a man's sould is more precious than the whole universe). Jesus sacrificed His everything to redeem us.

Dear 00123, I think that it is an absurd interpretation. What ever value men have is a result of the the new birth. The natural man has nothing of value to offer God. Hoppy |

4 | Matthew 13:45-46 (NIV) Pls Explain | Matt 13:45 | stjohn | 188393
Hi hoppy, If a natural man has nothing to offer God, then if he sells everything to perches the pearls, then he has nothing form nothing, because what he had to sell was worth nothing in the first place. Because of the keys to understanding the parables are given to us by our lord, this is right on the money as far as I can see, Because when Jesus explains them He says the [man] in the parables is the Son of Man. And that would be Him would it not? So, I'd be careful not to call something absurd until I took a closer look. God bless. John |

5 | Matthew 13:45-46 (NIV) Pls Explain | Matt 13:45 | mark d seyler | 188408
Hi John, Its sure interesting the symbols Jesus selected. A pearl is a jewel formed inside that which is unclean. It's formed by accretion when something from outside comes in. The harvesting of the pearl destroys that which it was formed in. And it's value is not seen by looking at what's outside, only by knowing what's inside. Its interesting that all of these same things can be said of the church. I also find it interesting that some would say that Jesus is indicating that people can buy His kingdom! Act 20:28 . . . the assembly of God which He purchased through His own blood. Don't you just love the harmony? Love in Christ, Mark |

6 | Matthew 13:45-46 (NIV) Pls Explain | Matt 13:45 | stjohn | 188421
Amen brother mark, And we can see another interesting parallel, in that a pearl is a many layered gem that coats a foreign object like a peace of dirt or sand and the oyster covers it, sort of like God covers our sins, with the blood of Jesus. Altho His blood actually wipes them out, the parallel can still be made I think, its like the sanctification process, we mess up, He cleans us up, and so on, until at the end you have a pearl. I don't feel much like a pearl by the way, but I'm getting closer. :-) And I would like to add in Hoppys defense that, I think its easy to misinterpret the parables when you don't know the keys, I had them all over the place with some very interesting interpretations, until I was shown the keys by someone, and they are right there in Matthew 13 for all to read you just have to read them and think a little bit. God bless. John |
